Everything Claude Von Stroke has touched this year seems to have turned to gold, and rightly so as he has somehow managed to find the perfect balance between a veritable car crash of influences and production values. Long before this month's Mixmag came along, 'The Whistler' was meandering its way through all the right dancefloors, and it seldom failed to raise joy and curiosity. Raising a curtain on the end of their breakthrough year, Claude has made way for the new birds on the block to work some magic. Much like Von Stroke's 'Who's Afraid Of Detroit', 'Deep Throat' and 'Peanut Butter Jelly Time', 'Stoopit' is one of those tunes that you won't be able to avoid whether you like it or not.

Posted here at 160kbps, 'Make Some Noise' is one of those tunes that took me a while to track down ever since being mesmerised by it during a Simian Mobile Disco set at Fabric. They used it as a clever tool to give the indie kids a breather, perhaps even force a few of them to hit the bar, while they reloaded their next banger, in this case 'Hustler'. It's about as minimal as you're likely to hear a DJ of their ilk go, and I'm a big fan. Track it down!

Another fantastic breakthrough act of the year has been Portugal's Buraka Som Sistema. To call what they do kuduro would be missing the point, as they draw on such an impressively wide pallette of influences in their work. At times recalling garage, old skool house, African percussion, ghettotech and so much more, I pray for the day that half the group is granted a working visa, so we can see them performing live on these shores.
